Board Nominations

Board Nom

ACTFL Board Member Nomination Process

Each year, ACTFL elects at-large members, in addition to the President-Elect, to the ACTFL Board. The President-Elect position varies each year, between a K-12 representative and a higher education representative. All ACTFL members in good standing for at least three years are encouraged to apply (five years with a proven record of service and leadership within ACTFL for President-Elect). The Nominating Committee reviews all applications and works to ensure that the ACTFL Board is representative of the membership in languages, levels, regions, and other factors related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as outlined by ACTFL’s Strategic Plan.

If you have any questions about this application process, please reach out to kjackson@0898che.net.

Read Board of Directors position descriptions and expectations.

ACTFL Members who wish to apply for candidacy should:

  1. Complete the form below. Please note that you must be logged in to your membership account to view and complete the application.
  2. Submit three (3) statements of support (written or video) from three (3) different perspectives—such as from colleagues, supervisors, parents, students, community partners, state organizations, regional organizations, and/or other ACTFL member organizations—that demonstrate your leadership. **For President-Elect submissions, at least one letter should speak directly to the candidate’s leadership experience within ACTFL.** Please keep letters to no more than two (2) pages each and videos to a maximum of 2 minutes 30 seconds. Statements or videos can be in the language of their choice. We encourage you to share the appropriate rubric with those who are writing statements of support (see below for rubrics).
  3. Submit an abbreviated Curriculum Vitae (limit three (3) pages).

The deadline for nominations is June 9, 2023.

Note: If you would like the Nominating Committee to ask someone to apply, please fill out this form and the Committee will contact that person.

Please Note: Salaried or otherwise compensated (stipends or honoraria) employees of state, regional, or national associations, for-profit organizations and corporations are not eligible for nomination for an elected position on the ACTFL Board or for President-Elect.

Next Steps:

Application

Research shows that women and people from underrepresented groups often apply for roles only if they meet 100% of the qualifications. We recognize that it is highly unlikely that anyone meets 100% of the qualifications for a role. If much of the posted job description describes you, then we encourage you to apply!

Please complete the following webform for submission as an ACTFL President-Elect or Board Member nominee. The following positions are being filled for 2023: President-Elect (K-12); and one (1) Higher-Ed at-large member. You must be logged in to your member account to view and submit the application. Please note: you may need to compress videos or reduce the resolution to ensure they don't exceed size limits. Due to the number and size of files, the upload may take a while, please be patient.

Please note: Videos submitted by applicants selected by the Nominating Committee will be used in the online ballot in October.

The form that would normally appear in this space has expired and is no longer accessible.
